How to perform double sequential defibrillation
Main Trial LIVE!
DoubleD-Trial is an academic, investigator-initiated, open-label, randomised trial.
The main purpose of the trial is to assess survival after early double sequential defibrillation (DSD), compared to standard defibrillation, in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) with an initial shockable rhythm who remain in cardiac arrest after at least one attempt of standard defibrillation.
The trial is coordinated by the Centre for Resuscitation Science, Karolinska Institutet (sponsor).
Screening for inclusion will be performed in all OHCA cases by participating emergency medical services (EMS) units where two study-specific defibrillators are available onsite (currently Corpuls3; additional defibrillators will be added). All OHCA patients (>18 years) with VT/VF at rhythm analysis and at least one defibrillation performed in the standard antero-lateral position are screened for inclusion. The pilot study, enrolling n = 40 patients in West Sweden, was completed in April 2025. Read more
The main study began recruiting patients in September 2025.
