Akil Awad presented Double-D at ERC 2025 in Rotterdam

At this year’s European Resuscitation Council (ERC) congress in Rotterdam, Akil Awad presented results from the Swedish study Double-D’s pilot phase during the Late Breaking / Hot Topic session.

The Double-D trial investigates the effect of Double Sequential Defibrillation (DSD) in cases of refractory ventricular fibrillation — an area of great international interest.

The study has so far been conducted at Swedish EMS-teams, with ongoing work to expand to the Netherlands and Spain. We are proud of this strong Swedish research initiative and the close collaboration between prehospital teams, coordinators and local PI’s that make this important study possible.

  1. Haha, fantastic that Swedish EMS is pioneering this! Hope the Dutch and Spanish teams dont find it too much of a jump from their current protocols. Maybe add a Dutch courage component to the DSD training? 😉 Great to see the collaboration, though I bet getting everyone to agree on defibrillation protocols is like herding cats – especially the coordinated ones! Well done on the presentation, though I suspect the audience was more stunned by the Dutch coffee than refractory ventricular fibrillation. Keep up the excellent work!
